City of Melton crowns Greater Melbourne as Australia’s largest city

Major news outlets reported this week that the addition of the City of Melton into Melbourne’s Significant Urban Area meant that Melbourne has overtaken Sydney’s population by 18,700 people.

The 61% growth of the population in the City of Melton between 2011 and 2021 was identified as the main driver of this change.

The Victorian Government has committed more than $900 million to deliver a new Melton Hospital

The brand-new hospital will support the growing and diverse communities of Caroline Springs, Rockbank, Melton and Bacchus Marsh. It will ensure the people of Melbourne’s west get the care they need, close to home.

The Melton Hospital will include a 24-hour emergency department, at least 274 beds, an intensive care unit, maternity and neonatal services, mental health services, radiology services and ambulatory care.Once completed, Melton Hospital will have the capacity to treat 130,000 patients each year and see almost 60,000 patients in the emergency department

The hospital will be Victoria’s first all-electric hospital.

Construction is expected to start in 2024 and be finished in 2029.

New Construction-Focused TAFE Campus For Melton.

The Allan Labor Government will deliver a new $55 million construction-focused TAFE campus in Melton by 2028, giving students in Melton and nearby the opportunity to study close to home.

Minister for Skills and TAFE Gayle Tierney today announced that Bendigo Kangan Institute had been selected as the TAFE provider to construct and operate the new campus because of their well-established strengths in the delivery of construction and trades training, and their geographic connection to the region.
